Inspections

PA State Inspection Official State Inspection Seal

We are an official PA State Inspection Station, and our technicians are certified to inspect Medium- and Heavy-Duty Trucks and Trailers, along with RV’s and motor homes, buses and landscape box trailers too. We treat your vehicle’s inspection like your life depends on it because at some point, it just might. When you are on the road, the last thing you want are any surprises and nor do your fellow motorists. Vehicles are required to be inspected annually by private repair shops that are certified by PennDOT. However, many of our customers request (and we recommend) semi-annual PA state inspections. We do inspections every six months to ensure your vehicle or trailer remains in top condition, and most importantly safe for operation.

Safety inspections for medium and heavy duty trucks and buses require that the following items be checked: suspension components, steering, braking systems, tires and wheels, lighting and electrical systems, glazing (glass), mirrors, windshield washer, defroster, wipers, fuel systems, the speedometer, the odometer, the exhaust systems, horns and warning devices, the body, and the chassis. Make sure your vehicle stays road-ready at all times by trusting it to the expert hands and eyes of Earthborne’s skilled technicians.

DOT Inspection

All commercial motor vehicles (CMV) that weigh more than 10,000 pounds OR carrying hazardous materials, regardless of weight, must undergo annual DOT inspections. The same applies for trailers. A DOT inspection ensures that all the CMV parts and accessories are safe to use, in good condition, and working properly.

At Earthborne, our DOT Inspections are designed to keep you in compliance with all applicable DOT regulations. Our highly qualified inspectors have extensive experience in the heavy truck repair industry and know what to look for during the inspection of your vehicle.

Our DOT Inspection consists of an examination of the following systems and components:

    • Coupling Devices
    • Seat Belt
    • Brakes
    • Exhaust System
    • Frame
    • Fuel System
    • Turn Signals
    • Brake Lamps
    • Tail Lamps
    • Headlamps
    • Lamps on Projecting Loads
    • Steering Mechanism
    • Suspension
    • Tires
    • Trailer Bodies
    • Wheels and Rims
    • Windshield Wipers

Drivers can learn the dangers of driving defective vehicles and how to detect and report problems for repairs well before a bigger issue arises. It's important to know what the inspection criteria includes and how to be proactive about maintaining a safe CMV. One of the best ways to do this is to perform a simple walk-around inspection before and after every trip the vehicle makes, including:

    • Checking each tire for air. Use a digital tire pressure gauge to check out tires that seem deflated. Also, be sure to know the rules and regulations in your state about mud flaps. Some states provide specific requirements for mud flaps/splash guards on the rear of the vehicle (to keep spray and debris tossed up by the tires from hitting the windshields of the following traffic).

    • Testing the Lights. Malfunctioning lights, bulbs, and electric signals can be a safety hazard. Be sure to check not only the brake lights but also the headlights, high beams, and low beams by turning on the engine and switching each one on systematically.

    • Looking for Cracks. Any cracks in the windows (even small, tiny chips) can quickly become much worse if they aren't addressed right away. Be sure to regularly check for hairline cracks and "stars" caused by flying gravel.Keep your truck in safe working order and avoid those hefty fines and emergency service repairs. Emissions Inspection Program

Pennsylvania’s emissions inspection program was customized to meet specific regional air-quality issues and improvement goals while focusing on customer convenience. A great deal has been done to improve air quality in Pennsylvania; however, more vehicles on the road and more miles being traveled are offsetting this progress. Vehicle emissions inspections are part of Pennsylvania’s plan to clean the air and keep it clean in the future. Earthborne is here to help your truck running clean and efficient.
